At age 18, he was diagnose with bone cancer which resulting in having his right leg amputate below the knee. This did not stop him from taking on an incredible challenge – running across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He began this “Marathon of Hope” in 1980 but sadly ended it after 143 days due to illness. Despite this setback, he managed to raise millions of dollars for cancer research and his legacy lives on with the annual Terry Fox Run held across the country in his honour.
