Tokyo Olympics 2020 Highlights Archer Deepika from India Keeps Alive the Hopes for Medal

Deepika Kumai, World No. 1 archer, defeated Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez from the USA on Wednesday in 1/16 eliminations round in Archery event of Tokyo 2021 Olympics. The winning has kept the medal hope of India alive. Deepika defeated her opponent with a scoreline of 6-4. However, Deepika was failed to deliver a great performance in the first set as her opponent took a 2-0 lead. 

But, in the 2nd set, Deepika made a comeback and manages to equalize the scoreline. After that, Deepika dominated in the 3rd set and took 4-2 lead after finishing the match. But, Deepika didn’t perform well in the 4th set and her opponent manages to score another 2 points that gave her a lead of 4-4. Then the match progressed to the 5th and final set. 

However, in the final set, Deepika dominated again and scored 2 points to win the match as 6-4. As a result, she won the match and progressed to the 1/8 eliminations round. 

Earlier that day, Parvin Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai couldn’t qualify to 1/8 men’s archery after losing in the 1/16 qualifications round. India’s mixed team Parvin Jadhav and Deepika Kumari lost the quarter-final clash with the mixed team of South Korea. The South Korean mixed team defeated the Indian mixed team in 6-2. 

India in Badminton on Day 5

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu overpowered Ngan Yi Cheung from Hong Kong in the second group match of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Sindhu defeated her opponent in straight sets 21-16, 21-9 to advance into the knockout round of women’s singles. She dominated the first set and won the game easily. The scorecard of the first set was 21-9 and it finished within just 15 minutes. In the second set, Ngan Yi Cheung tried to pressurize Sindhi but she scored some important points to the path of victory. After that Sindhu has advanced to the knockout rounds. However, the story is not good for men’s singles. Sai Praneeth lost his match and was eliminated from Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. 

 India in Hockey on Day 5 of Olympics 2020

The Indian women’s hockey team is suffering from bad luck. They were defeated thrice by Great Britain by 4-1 on the Day 5 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. 

This is the third successive defeat of India after losing to Germany buy 0-2 on Monday. The Netherlands has also defeated India vigorously in their opening game. Indian will ace South Africa and Ireland before progressing to the knockout stage. 

India in Boxing

Boxer Pooja Rani defeated Ichrak Chaib of Algeria after dominating the quarter-finals of the women’s middleweight category in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She secured a score of 5-0 against her opponent. 

Rani won the first round as judges voted in her favor. She also dominated the next two rounds and didn’t give her opponent any chance for a comeback. 

On Tuesday, Lovlina Borgohain progressed into the quarter-finals of the women’s welterweight in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after defeating her opponent Nadine Apetz of Germany. 

On Sunday, Mary Kom progressed into the Round of 16 of Women’s flyweight after defeating her opponent Miguelina Garcia of the Dominican Republic. Mary Kom defeated her opponent by 4-1.
