Covid Protocols of Tokyo Olympic 2020

The whole world is waiting in fear for the arrival of the third wave of Covid and amidst such chaos, the much-awaiting Olympic Games have begun Tokyo on 23rd July 2021 which schedules to be on 24th of June 2020 but getting postpones due to the deadly virus. The Olympic committee has laid down certain rules and regulations for the proper execution of the event.

Circulation of the Playbooks

For the past few months, the organizers have circulated a series of Playbooks that contain new Protocols guidelines. For carrying out the event safely instead of allowing it to become a super-spreader event. It clearly states that athletes who would fail to adhere to such guidelines would face disciplinary consequences.

Covid Test Rules

Not only the participants but also all the other officials associating with the smooth running of the game require to undergo two tests. They were asking to carry negative Covid-19 test results which they had to produce at the time of boarding. On arriving in Tokyo, individuals were asked to take a saliva antigen test at the airport. If found positive, athletes and officials were in isolation immediately and require to take a confirmatory RT-PCR test. If these test results were also found positive, then individuals were getting treatment as per the health instructions of the Japanese authority.

PCR Test required daily for the participants and officials

Other than getting the temperature checking each time an individual would enter the Olympic village or the scheduling venue. Athletes and officials who would require to remain in the proximity of the participants would also have to take the Covid test daily by a rapid saliva antigen test kit. To be extra cautious in spreading the deadly contagious virus.

Vaccination Rules

Although the Olympic committee hasn’t mandate vaccination, they are encouraging everyone to get the vaccination. According to the rule states in the Playbooks, immunization is not being in consideration a requirement for participating in the games. All the regulations of the said book will be applicable for the competitors and other concerning members irrelevant of the fact whether a person has had a vaccination or not.

General protocols that are to be followed all the time are –

  • Wearing mask all the time except at the time of eating, drinking, sleeping, during training sessions, or during the time of participation.
  • A physical distance of 2 meters is to maintain from each other at all times. Athletes should maintain at least a distance of 1 meter. Physical interaction should be as less as possible and gestures like hugging, handshakes and high fives are in strict prohibition.
  • Washing and sanitizing hands should be doing at regular intervals.
  • Athletes should only use transport meant for the games only.
  • Participants are strictly barring from touring Japan.

Rules for Spectators

All spectators, be it domestic or foreign, have been ban from all the venues of the Olympic Games. This has been doing to reduce the risk of the spread of infection of Covid. Hashimoto, the president of the Tokyo Olympics, has been getting the acknowledgment. That it had been a tough decision to take but was doing for the safety of the people. A state of emergency has been declaring in Tokyo after this announcement. This is likely to continue till Aug 22, as there’s a significant rise in the Covid-19 cases.
